Police detained Ahmad Naf'an aka Mbah Aan at 10.00 pm on Thursday. Mbah Aan, the founder of Santri Loka, was preaching the members at his house when the villagers of Kranggan in East Java's Mojokerto rushed into his house in curiousity. To avoid any unexpected things to happen, police detained Mbah Aan so the angry villagers could not get into house.
The villagers became angry after they watched Mbah Aan being interviewed on TV. They thought what Mbah Aan has taught about Islam to his followers is absolutely wrong and different from the true teaching of Islam. Mbah Aan says that prayers are not compulsory. Fasting in Ramadhan is not a must, and this has actually caused MUI to plan to make its fatwa on this sect, claiming that it deviates from the real Islam.
Report says that Santri Loka now has more than 700 followers and has been spread to three areas in Mojokerto
